Subject: the County Executive to ensure all building plans with more than 4 stories to incorporate solid waste management chutes

            THAT, aware that solid waste management in the County pose a great environmental and health challenge; FURTHER AWARE that Paragraph (2)(g) of part two of the Forth Schedule of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 provides for refuse removal, refuse dumps and solid waste disposal as a County function; CONCERNED that the implementation of solid waste management faces numerous challenge especially from the residential areas due to lack of a proper designated area for holding solid waste; FURTHER CONCERNED that improper solid waste management is an emerging health threat to the residents of Nairobi County, the environment and well-being of the city; ACKNOWLEDGING that solid waste management is a collective responsibility that requires all the generators to ensure the environment free from Health risk; NOTING that most residential Buildings and Estates in the County have no designated waste collection and holding area; this Assembly urges the County Executive to ensure all building plans with more than 4 stories to incorporate solid waste management chutes in their architectural plans and building with less than 4 stories to incorporate a designated solid waste holding area for temporary collection henceforth.
