THAT, aware that the rapid population growth of youths has become a global phenomenon and Kenya is no exception to this trend; FURTHER AWARE that in Kenya, the youth bulge presents a number of challenges for both the youth and the country; NOTING that every year, one million young people join the job market in Kenya, yet Kenya has the largest number of jobless youth in East Africa; OBSERVING that the youth are, and will remain, a significant share of Kenya's population for the foreseeable future; REALIZING that developing and implementing appropriate strategies, policies and programmes to mitigate the risks and challenges the youth face must be much more of a priority for the Nairobi County Government than it currently is; BEARING IN MIND that any failure to provide appropriate opportunities for this large segment of the population could have enormous economic, political, cultural, and social consequences; AFFIRMING that engaging the youth population fully is therefore no longer a choice but a necessity in the development process of the County; this ASSEMBLY URGES the County Executive to develop and submit to the County Assembly for approval, a comprehensive County youth empowerment policy that includes funding opportunities for young entrepreneurs to help mitigate the challenges of youth unemployment in the City.
