Subject: developing multi-storey parking lots through public private partnerships in the CBD

THAT AWARE, that part of the Nairobi City County Governor’s seven (7) point Agenda is the improvement of traffic management within the CBD, promotion of an enabling environment for job creation, business growth and wealth creation; OBSERVING that the attainment of the foregoing might prove difficult given the limited parking space in the City centre, a major contributor to traffic snarl ups and gridlock; NOTING that the County has several vacant lots, for instance the parking adjacent to the Supreme Court and many others, which remain underutilized; APPRECIATING that some of the plots are utilized as temporary markets over the weekend such as Maasai Market; FURTHER NOTING that the plots have the potential to greatly help the City ease congestion by creating additional parking and thus new revenue streams; this Assembly urges the County Executive to consider developing multi-storey parking lots through public private partnerships in all available County plots within the greater CBD to create additional parking space and generate additional crucial revenues as well as create job opportunities.
